Vertebroplasty (stabilize back fracture)

Description
Vertebroplasty is a procedure used to treat compression fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine. Using x-ray guidance a needle is inserted into the compressed vertebra and an acrylic cement is inserted. When the cement dries the bone regains stability and strength.

Common Complications
Complications include: leaking of acrylic cement outside of the vertebral body, infection, bleeding, numbness, tingling, headache and paralysis. The patient continue to have back pain following the procedure.
