Upper GI series (upper digestive tract tests)

Description
A diagnostic procedure to x-ray the upper digestive tract that are taken when a person drinks a barium solution to outline the digestive organs on the x-rays. Helpful in detecting stomach cancer and esophageal cancer, peptic ulcer, and other abnormalities.

Common Complications
Allergic reaction to the dye and accidental aspiration of the dye resulting in pneumonia.
