Tuberculosis skin test (PPD skin test)

Description
A skin test that measures the immune response to the tuberculosis (TB) bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A person will have a positive test if they have TB, have been exposed to TB or if they received a vaccine against TB (BCG vaccine). The test is performed by placing a small amount of purified protein derivative (PPD) under the skin and measuring the amount of redness and swelling in 48-72 hour by a medical professional.

Common Complications
There is a slight chance of having a very severe reaction, or having an allergic reaction to the PPD material.
