Transrectal ultrasound with prostate biopsy

Description
A diagnostic imaging procedure. An ultrasound (sonogram) consists of high frequency sound waves. An ultrasound transducer is inserted into the rectum to view the prostate. The prostate is measured and any suspicious lesions are biopsied through the device. The procedure is done to diagnose cancer or infection.

Common Complications
The main risks of the procedure include infection and bleeding from the rectum or bladder. There may be blood in the ejaculate for 2-3 weeks.
