Tonsilectomy (removal of tonsils)

Description
Tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils. The tonsils are removed because of chronic infection, and also to relieve the obstruction in obstructive sleep apnea. Many times the adenoids are removed as well (adenoidectomy).

Common Complications
Bleeding after surgery, and injury to to the soft palate and uvula. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems.
