Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE)

Description
This technique is reserved for those men where Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (MESA) does not produce enough sperm. The doctor makes an incision in the scrotal skin of the testicle and a piece of testicle tissue is immediately evaluated to determine if usable sperm are present in the testicle. If mature sperm are present the procedure is completed and sperm are collected for use. Since the number of sperm is generally small the technique is usually combined with Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to maximize success.
