Stool culture

Description
A test that identifies disease causing organisms in the stool. Bacteria cultures are the most common test performed but virus, and fungus cultures are also done. There are many types of bacteria that live in human stool that do not cause disease.The most common disease causing bacteria are salmonella, shigella, campylobacter, Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Clostridium dificile.
