A diagnostic imaging procedure. The ultrasound device makes sound waves that bounce off tissues and create echoes. The pictures can be used to diagnose abnormalities of vascular structures, liver, gallbladder, spleen, appendix, pancreas, kidneys, thyroid, heart and other conditions. Also known as an ultrasound test.
