Skin biopsy

Description
A small piece of skin is removed for examination under a microscope. The test is usually done to detect cancer or to determine the cause of a rash. There are 3 types: a shave biopsy takes a thin slice of skin; a punch biopsy uses a circular sharp tool and removes a round section of skin including the deeper layers; an excisional biopsy removes more skin and tissue using a scalpel.
