Sigmoidoscopy (image the lower colon)

Description
A procedure to image the lower colon with a thin, lighted tube called a sigmoidoscope. Helpful for diagnosing causes of diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's or ulcerative colitis, colon cancer and other conditions.

Common Complications
Pain and abdominal boating. Injury to the rectum or colon. Colonic perforation can result in a life threatening infection.
