Shoulder Resection Arthroplasty

Description
Surgery that removes the end of the collar bone and reconstructs the AC joint. The collar bone is also called the clavicle and it makes up the AC joint (acromium clavicular joint) along with the acromium. Injury or arthritis can damage the AC joint leading to decreased shoulder motion and pain. This procedure helps to relieve these problems.

Common Complications
Complications include injury to the joint, ligaments, cartilage, nerves or blood vessels. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems. The surgery may not relieve the stiffness or chronic pain of the shoulder.
