Sacroiliac joint injection (Lower back injections)

Description
The sacroiliac joints connect the lower back to the pelvis. There is a joint on each side of the back. Inflammation, arthritis, and/or injury of this area can cause chronic back pain and pain in the legs. The patient is given a local anesthetic and using an x-ray for guidance a local anesthetic and steroid are injected into the area to reduce inflammation and pain.

Common Complications
Pain at the site of injection. Infection, bleeding and worsening symptoms are possible. Rarely an allergic reaction to the anesthetic or steroid can occur.
