Rotator Cuff Repair

Description
The rotator cuff is part of the shoulder joint and is made up of 4 muscles and tendons. Surgery is done primarily to repair the tendons, and remove bone spurs. The procedure can be performed by making a large incision (open technique) or through a tube with a camera (arthroscopic technique).

Common Complications
Complications include injury to the joint, ligaments, cartilage, nerves or blood vessels. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems. Stiffness of the shoulder, failure of the surgery to relieve symptoms, failure of the repair to heal and weakness of the shoulder.
