Proctosigmoidoscopy (lower colon diagnostic test)

Description
A procedure to image the lower colon with a thin, lighted tube called a sigmoidoscope. It is helpful for diagnosing causes of diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's or ulcerative colitis, colon cancer and other conditions. Also known as a sigmoidoscopy.

Common Complications
Pain and bloating. Injury to the rectum or colon. Colonic perforation can rarely occur and may result in serious infection.
