Percutaneous pedicle screws

Description
Pedicle screws are used to stabilize the spine and allow the vertebrae to fuse. Pedicle screws are connected with rods. These screws are usually placed through an open incision. In the percutaneous route the screws are placed through a small skin incision, often referred to a minimally invasive technique.

Common Complications
Complications include: vertebrae failing to fuse, hardware fracture, nerve damage or persistent pain. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems.
