Nephrectomy (remove kidney)

Description
A surgical procedure involving the removal of a kidney that has been damaged by disease or cancer. The procedure can performed through a laproscope, robot-assisted laproscrope or with an open incision technique.

Common Complications
Infection or fluid collection around kidney space. Decrease kidney function. The surgery can result in post-operative pain, blood clots of the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolus). Patients can infrequently have bad reactions to the general anesthesia including allergic reactions and very rarely a heart attack or stroke.
