Myomectomy (remove fibroids)

Description
Myomectomy is a procedure in which uterine fibroids are surgically removed from the uterus. The procedure is an alternative to hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus) in selected patients of child bearing age.

Common Complications
Perforation of the uterus, injury to the intestines or pelvic blood vessels, and pelvic scarring (adhesions). The surgery can result in post-operative pain, vaginal bleeding, infection or blood clots of the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolus). Patients can infrequently have bad reactions to the general anesthesia including allergic reactions and very rarely a heart attack or stroke.
