Microdiscectomy (Microdecompression)

Description
A small portion of the bone and/or disc material that is impinging on the nerve is removed. The procedure is done to relieve the pain of a herniated disc.The surgery is more effective in relieving leg pain than back pain and is much less invasive than a total removal of the disc and fusion.

Common Complications
Complications include chronic pain and failure of the procedure requiring a repeat procedure. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems.
