Medial branch block

Description
Facets are joints in the spine. Arthritis in these joints can cause neck or back pain. The medial branch are nerves that carry pain signals from the back to the brain. Local anesthetic is injected using x-ray guidance to numb these nerves. Pain relief from the procedures implicates the facet joint as the area causing the pain and may be an indication for other procedures to produce longer lasting pain relief.
