Description

The sympathetic nerves are located on both sides along the back. At times pain is carried in the sympathetic nerves that supply the legs. A local anesthetic is injected to numb these nerves and relieve pain from the following conditions: complex regional pain syndrome, herpes zoster, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, and sympathetic maintained pain.

Common Complications

Pain at the site of injection. Infection, bleeding and worsening symptoms are possible. Rarely an allergic reaction to the anesthetic can occur.
