Lumbar facet rhizotomy
Description
A procedure that is used to treat lower back pain being caused by an irritated nerve near the facet joint of the lower back. A needle is inserted into the back near the nerve causing the pain. A small wire is passed through the needle and a radio frequency current is used to deaden the nerve.

Common Complications
Complications include bleeding, infection, headache, and nerve damage. Nerve damage can result in increased pain, numbness or paralysis.
