Liver Biopsy

Description
A sample of the liver is taken to examine under the microscope. The most common type is called a percutaneous liver biopsy. This type involves inserting a needle through the skin of the abdomen into the liver and obtaining a small piece of liver tissue.

Common Complications
Infection, bleeding, and injury to the liver or other organs. The procedure can damage the lungs, gallbladder, or kidney.
