Leg Lengthening and shortening

Description
A surgical procedure that is performed to correct leg length differences of 1 inch or less. Surgery consists of lengthening a leg, shortening a leg or preventing a leg from continued growth. The type of surgery depends on the amount of length difference between the two legs and the age of the patient. Surgery is usually performed early in life.

Common Complications
Complications include injury to the joint, ligaments, cartilage, nerves or blood vessels. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems. The surgery may not produce the desired result.
