Description
A surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder. A laparoscope (camera) is inserted through a small incision, and the gallbladder is then removed through a second small incision.

Common Complications
Surgery can result in pain, infection or blood clots of the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolus). Damage and leaking of a bile duct can result in a fluid collection and abscess (collection of pus). At times a stone can be left behind (retained stone) in one of the bile ducts.
