Laminotomy (make hole in lamina of spine)

Description
A surgical procedure involving a partial removal (make hole) in the bony area at the back of the spine (vertebra) to relieve pressure of a nerve.

Common Complications
Nerve injury causing weakness and numbness. A collection of fluid and/or blood can require repeat surgery. Some patients have persistent pain. Surgery can result in post-operative pain, infection or blood clots of the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolus).
