A surgical procedure to anesthetize (usually with local anesthesia), clean, and close a wound from a traumatic injury to the soft tissues. It may involve multiple layers of closure (skin, subcutaneous, muscle, etc).

Common Complications

Infection and pain. Injury to the nerves and blood vessels can occur. If the wound is not properly cleaned and a foreign body such as wood or dirt is left in the room a chronic infection can occur.
