Intravenous pyelography IVP (Xray procedure of kidneys, urethras and bladder)

Description
A x-ray procedure to image the kidneys, urethras, and bladder with a dye that is injected into the blood stream. The dye is excreted in the urine and outlines the urinary tract, including the kidneys, ureters, and bladder, with contrast material. It may help with diagnosing certain types of kidney disease, or bladder cancer.

Common Complications
The contrast dye can rarely damage the kidneys especially in those with pre-existing kidney disease. Patients can have allergic reactions to the dye causing a simple rash to life threatening swelling or drop in blood pressure.
