Herniorrhaphy (hernia repair)

Description
A surgical procedure to repair a hernia. Hernias can be present in many areas with inguinal, abdominal wall, and the belly button (umbilicus) being the most common.

Common Complications
Injury to the intestine and return of the hernia. Any surgery can result in pain, infection or blood clots of the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolus). General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems.
