Grommet Insertion (Eardrum tube insertion)

Description
A grommet is another name for a tympanoplasy tube. These tubes are placed in the eardrum to remove trapped fluid in the middle ear. The most common cause of the fluid accumulation is a chronic infection. The fluid causes hearing problems and sometimes dizziness. The tubes are usually left in for one year. Many times the hole in the eardrum heals on its own pushing the tube out on its own.
