Description

Ganglion cyst removal, or ganglionectomy, is the removal of a fluid filled sac found over the wrist, finger or bottom of the foot. The sac is connected to the joint and filled with joint fluid also called synovial fluid. Sometimes the sac is connected to a tendon. The procedure consists of draining the fluid with a needle, followed by removal of the cyst surgically.

Common Complications

Complications include injury to the joint, ligaments, cartilage, nerves or blood vessels. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots.
