Gamma knife surgery

Description

Description

A type of stereotactic surgery used to treat brain tumors. The medical procedure involves a rigid head frame that is attached to the skull for the accurate administration of radiation therapy through openings in the head frame. The radiation is more accurately aimed using detailed CT scan and MRI imaging. This allows for treatment of a tumor while decreasing the amount of radiation given to normal brain tissue.
