Gamate intrafallopian transfer (GIFT)

Description
The woman's eggs are removed and mixed with washed sperm then immediately placed in the fallopian tubes. GIFT differs from in vitro fertilization (IVF) and Zygote Intra-Fallopian Transfer (ZIFT) since the formation of the embryo occurs within the fallopian tube instead of in the laboratory as in IVF and ZIFT. The woman must undergo laproscopic surgery to enable the doctor to insert the embryo directly into the fallopian tube.
