Foraminotomy

Description
Foraminotomy is a surgical decompression surgery of the spine. The procedure removes bone and ligament tissue around the neural foramen. The neural foramen is the passageway for the nerves to leave the spinal canal. The surgery is done to relieve the narrowing of the foramen from spinal stenosis, degenerative disk disease, herniated disc, sciatica, and spondylosis.

Common Complications
Complications include: nerve damage or persistent pain. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems.
