Description
An epidural steroid injection is performed to relieve back pain or leg pain caused by spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, spondylolysis, or a herniated disc. A needle is inserted into the sac surrounding the spinal cord and nerves but does not enter the area containing the spinal cord. A local anesthetic and a steroid are injected into this area.
