Endouminal gastroplication (ELGP)

Description
A treatment for chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The doctor performs an endoscopy (a flexible tube with a cameras inserted through the mouth into the esophagus). Through the endoscope pieces of esophagus are sutured into a pleat (plicated) just below the lower esophageal sphincter. These pleats reduce the acidic stomach contents from entering the esophagus and reduce the symptoms of GERD. The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure.
