Description

A medical procedure using a thin, lighted scope (called an endoscope) to examine the inside of the esophagus, stomach or intestine. The study is used to identify ulcers or tumors and can be used to stop bleeding and obtain pieces of tissue for analysis (biopsy).

Common Complications

The esophagus, stomach or intestine can be torn or perforatd leading to infecton and serious illness. The procedure requires sedation and bad reactions can occur to the anesthesia.
