Description

Combines an endoscopy (a flexible tube with a camera is inserted through the mouth or the rectum to view the esophagus or intestines) and an ultrasound to get images of the digestive tract and surrounding organs. The procedure is done to evaluate esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, lung cancer, pancreas diseases, bile duct diseases and problems with the esophagus or rectum.

Common Complications

Common Complications

Complications include injury to the esophagus or rectum, and rarely perforation which can be very serious. The anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems.
