Description
Replacing the damaged disc between the vertebrae with an artificial disc is an alternative to a spinal fusion for chronic back and neck pain secondary to degenerative disc disease and a herniated disc.

Common Complications
Complications include: chronic pain form nerve damage; a necessary repeat surgical procedure from failure of the artificial disc. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems.
