Description
A surgical procedure to dilate the cervix, allowing access to the uterus to scrape the lining with a spoon-shaped instrument called a curette (curettage). It can be used for diagnosis or treatment of uterine bleeding, fibroids, cancer, and other conditions.

Common Complications
Vaginal bleeding and pain. Rarely perforation of the uterus can occur along with associated injury to the intestines, bladder or blood vessels. Any surgery can result in pain, infection or blood clots of the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolus).
