Description
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical treatment which involves the implantation of a brain pacemaker that stimulates the brain with mild electrical signals. The procedure is done to treat Parkinson's, chronic pain, tremor and dystonia.

Common Complications
Complications include changes in personality and behavior such as: apathy, hallucinations, compulsive gambling, hypersexuality, cognitive dysfunction, and depression. There can be bleeding in the brain during or after the procedure. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems.
