CRH (corticotropin releasing hormone) test

Description
This test helps determine why a patient has too little or too much cortisol. CRH (corticotropin releasing hormone) is produced by the hypothalamus in the brain. CRH tells the pituitary gland to produce ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) which then stimulates the adrenal gland to produce cortisol. This test measures the amount of cortisol in the body before and after a synthetic form of CRH is given.
