Cortisol (24 hour urine)

Description
Cortisol is a steroid hormone that is essential for normal functioning of circulation, metabolism, bone formation, and the immune system. A 24 hour urine collection is needed to measure cortisol since the levels fluctuate during the day. Too much cortisol is seen in diseases such as Cushing's and too little in disorders such as Addison's disease. Medications and stress can affect the level of cortisol.
