Coronary angiogram (xray heart arteries)

Description
A procedure to x-ray blood vessels in the heart. Dye is injected into the vessel using a catheter which allows the blood vessels to be visualized. This procedure can identify blockages and other problems interfering with the flow of blood.

Common Complications
Damage to the blood vessels of the heart or leg, rarely requiring immediate surgery. The contrast used can rarely damage the kidneys. Some patients can be allergic to the contrast causing a reaction from a rash to life threatening swelling or drop in blood pressure.
