Complete hysterectomy (remove uterus)

Description
A surgical procedure to remove the entire uterus, possible including the entire cervix. The surgery can be done through the vagina (vaginal hysterectomy) or through the abdomen.

Common Complications
Surgery can result in pain, infection or blood clots of the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolus). Damage to the other organs including the intestine or ureter (tube connecting kidney to bladder). Patients can infrequently have bad reactions to the general anesthesia including allergic reactions and very rarely a heart attack or stroke.
