Cervical discectomy (neck disc surgery)

Description
Cervical discectomy with fusion involves relieving the pressure on the nerves or spinal cord by removing the offending disc or bony spurs. A bone graft is placed between the bones where the disc was removed which fuses the two bones together. The surgeon reaches the disc by making an incision in the front of the neck (anterior) and the operation is many times called an anterior cervical disectomy. Many times hardware is inserted to help stabilize the bones and heal after surgery.
