Central line placement (insertion of hollow tube into large vein)

Description
A procedure to place a large bore intravenous catheter into the subclavian, internal jugular, or femoral vein for IV access, blood draw, and medication delivery. Many times the procedure is done with the help of an ultrasound.

Common Complications
Infection at the insertion site, damage to the blood vessel, and a blood clot in the vessel are the most common complications.
