Carpal tunnel surgery (open release surgery)

Description
Open release surgery is the traditional method of repairing carpal tunnel syndrome. A 2 inch incision is made over the wrist and the carpal tunnel ligament is cut to make more room in the carpal tunnel and take pressure off the median nerve. The procedure is generally done as an outpatient under local anesthesia.

Common Complications
Complications include: infection, nerve injury, wrist stiffness, and chronic pain.
