Common Complications
Surgery can result in infection, pain, and the development of blood clots in the legs or lungs after surgery. The carotid artery can be damaged resulting in life threatening bleeding or a stroke. Patients can infrequently have bad reactions to the general anesthesia including allergic reactions and very rarely a heart attack or stroke.
