C section (surgical delivery of baby)

Description
A surgical procedure used when a woman cannot deliver a baby vaginally, or if a baby is in distress during labor. An incision is made in a woman's abdomen and uterus to deliver the baby. It is also called cesarean section.

Common Complications
Any major surgery can result in infection, pain, and the development of blood clots in the legs or lungs after surgery. A c-section can result in an intra-abdominal infection, intestinal obstruction, or damage to the uterus or other organs in the pelvis.
