Bunionectomy

Description
A bunion is also called hallux valgus. There are numerous ways to surgically fix a bunion and the procedure selected depends on the severity of the deformity and the patient. In most cases an incision is made and the excess bone is removed. The great toe is placed in proper alignment and surgical wires are used to maintain the correct position while the toe heals. The foot can be numbed at the ankle or the patient can be given general anesthesia.
